Melissa Allen

Connecticut Native provides Therapeutic Massage Services

Equine massage therapyMelissa Allen grew up in Prospect, CT, which she considered to be a horse friendly town. Getting her first pony at the age of 11, She started on a path that had her riding all the way through her high school years. Eleven years later, after finding her ideal home, Melissa is back on that path. Looking at the local rescue foundation in February of 2002, Melissa found Saunci and Flurry. Saunci was a police horse who was looking for a place to spend his retirement. Flurry was a premarin foal also looking for a caring person.

After finding her horses at the rescue, Melissa started volunteering there. It was during this time that she discovered that she had an interest in the rehabilitation of these animals. Working with the abused and often neglected horses she learned of the benefits of animal massage therapy. Melissa attended the Equissage school of equine massage therapy in Virginia. Shortly after returning from this training her 2 year old english bulldog had to have knee surgery. Believing so strongly in the benefits of equine massage on her horses she decided to get certified in canine massage as well. This training was also completed at Equissage.

Melissa lives with her husband Jim in Woodbridge, CT. Living on the farm with them are 4 horses that they have rescued and their 2 bull dogs, Stella and Jake.

Melissa is certified by Equissage in equine massage and canine massage. She is a member of the International Association of Animal Massage Therapists.
